Juliann Jane Tillman

    I had never heard of Juliann Jane Tillman before reading the African American Odyssey article. Tillman was an African Methodist Episcopal preacher. According to the article, “African Methodist Episcopal Church, which, along with independent black Baptist congregations, flourished as the century progressed.” They point out that women were not allowed in the early years, but some special women like Tillman, were recognized to have special preaching qualities.
