When reading about the American
the politics in the 1700s the conflicts, the different opinions, and the struggles
seem very similar to our current politics. The disagreements between the
Federalists and Anti-Federalists are very alike the opposing ideas of modern
Republicans and Democrats. The Federalists wanted a strong government, and the
Anti-Federalists were fighting to limit the Federal government control. Of
course back then after the struggles, conflicts and unfortunately forceful
methods they were able to compose The Constitution. But it is interesting to
learn that some Americans were always afraid of what a big government would
mean. And seem to be always fighting to limit their power. It can be a noble
thought and it can be incredibly selfish.
As it was pointed out in the Anti
Federalists Lecture, that sentiment any times is hiding ideas of prejudices and
self interests. I have heard many times by today’s politicians the idea of a
strong government being called Socialism to hide the truth which is many people
do not care about the less fortunate. It is easy to say that people should be self-sufficient
and the poor want handouts, but most of this has been said by people who never
had to struggle in their lives. I believe it is the government’s job to help
the less fortunate because coming from a poor country, I know what happens when
the government don’t. In my home country it is sad to see so many people who
works during the day and back to the streets at night because they are
homeless. And interestingly enough the people who help these miserable people
in the streets are the poor, who don’t have much, but understand their issue
much closer than anyone else.
